Cat Questions and Responses on Cat Training and Cat Behavior

Q: Is it possible to train a cat?

A: Yes, training a cat is not as hard as many pet owners consider it is. Cats probably are not as responsive to training as Rover or Spot are but they can be trained. Treats given as positive reinforcement is probably the main method to train your cat.

Q: Why and how do happy cats purr?

A: Adult cats purr because they are happy and contented and to manipulate humans — Can you resist a purring kitty? Kittens purr in response to their mother cat’s purr to help bond them. It is usually believed that the purring is a vibration of the larynx as air is pushed though it. It is also believed that purring is a voluntary action.

Q: What makes a number of individuals are allergic to cats?

A: Cat allergies are caused by the proteins in cat dander originating from the cat’s saliva. The dander dries and becomes airborne. People with cat allergies have an allergic reaction because their immune system is beginning to fight the enemy protein and creates histamines.

Q: How do you stop unwanted cat behavior like scratching?

A: The best way to stop naughty cat behavior is the same way the mother cat controls an errant kitten. This is by scuffing the cat. You firmly but gently grasp the cat by the scruff of the neck and hold it down until it calms down. You must do this at the time of the unwanted behavior.

Q: How do you litter train a cat?

A: You really shouldn’t need to do any training for a cat to make use of a litter box, but if your adult cat has started to avoid the litter box you need to determine the cause. The cat may have a urinary tract infection in which case you need to visit the veterinarian. If it is just too dirty you need to keep it cleaner. If you have switched to litter you may have to change back or sprinkle a little catnip in the litter to attract the cat to the new litter.

Q: How do you keep cats off the kitchen table?

A: This is the most asked about cat behavior problems and can be a challenging one. Cats like high places and they often find food or food smells on tables and counters. It is best to keep the surfaces clean and to use something like foil or double sided tape to keep cats off the counters.

I have a fast car, many times I have to control myself to not floor it, I fear the consequences, killing other drivers or me, of course there are many other negative results as well. Fear keeps me in line, I keep it that way. You should FEAR the consequences should you lose your control.
    1) Lose your family
    2) Lose your business or sever your business partnership
    3) You list the rest
Sorry to be so blunt but there are life choices that must be made with your brain not your homones.

None of you have ever laughed when someone falls down on America's Funniest Videos? None of you have ever scared the crap out of someone and laughed at their expense? None of you have ever dressed your children up in a stupid costume? Seriously? That's exactly what happened here.

There was no way for the owner to predict that the adult cat would have reacted this way, and the kitten wasn't hurt. I've fostered mother cats who've treated their kittens worse than this for no reason at all. Stop anthropomorphizing. They're animals, they communicate with one another differently than we do. That little tap was not as traumatizing to that kitten as you're making it out to be.

My two cents… I know people got talent. Hyun A clearly has one. I appreciate her passion for dancing, and I know she is outstanding. But the demeanor in which she performs is a bit disturbing. Whether it is her voluntary action or coercion by her firm, having a skirt ripped off in the front and dancing like that disheartens me. Despite the fact that she is still 18, she is deified in a so called “sexy” icon. The connotation is so entrenched in every girl-group idol, it is simply appalling.
